Derivatives are financial products, which in the case of Greek market are based on shares or stock indices listed in ASE.

Derivatives are divided into 2 main categories:

* Futures, where two counterparties agree to purchase or sale a product-title at a price determined at the conclusion of the contract, while the delivery and payment are defined at a specified future date.

* Options, that give the buyer the right (but not the obligation) to deliver or to require delivery of a given product at a predetermined price within a predetermined time period.

Derivative products are aimed at those investors seeking:

* Greater leverage, as their investment in derivatives can lead to multiplication of the performance compared with that of the underlying instrument.

* Hedging, to protect them against sudden fluctuations in the price of the underlying instrument.

The derivatives market enables all investors, to meet their investment needs through a variety of investment products and strategies, tradable in the Derivatives Market.
